Dr. Cynthia Heise is a licensed, board certified, Doctor of Audiology. She received her undergraduate degree in Communication Sciences from the University of Florida, with a Master’s degree in Audiology from the University of South Florida. While her children were completing high school, Cynthia returned to Nova Southeastern University to complete her Doctorate of Audiology degree. Cynthia is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology and the Florida Academy of Audiology, she is Board Certified by the American Speech-Language Pathology and Hearing Association.
Dr. Heise was appointed by the Governor of Florida to the Board of Audiology and Speech Pathology where she served for 12 years. During her tenure on the Board, Dr. Heise was instrumental in developing our current State licensing laws for consumer protection.
Dr. Heise has been the owner and operator of The Hearing Center of Broward, a private practice audiology clinic, since 1976. She specializes in adult and pediatric audiology, including complete diagnostic services, vestibular assessment, and electrophysiology. Her primary specialty is in the prescribing and fitting of hearing aids, including counseling and rehabilitation services. Dividing her time among three locations in Broward County, Cynthia always finds quality time to spend with her family which includes her eleven grandchildren.
Nationally board certified in Hearing Instrument Sciences, with 35 years of experience in Hearing Science, Layne specializes in adult and geriatric hearing rehabilitation. Using high-end Hearing Instrument Technology, he focuses on personalizing lifestyle solutions for optimum hearing benefits. In his free time, Layne enjoys spending time with his family and grandchildren, and playing a few rounds of golf.
Kimberly is a licensed, board certified, Doctor of Audiology with over 20 years of experience. She received her Doctorate in Audiology from A.T. Still University School of Health Sciences Arizona, and her Masters of Science and Bachelors of Science from West Virginia University.
While Kim enjoys many facets of audiology, her passion lies with dispensing hearing aids. Before becoming a private practice audiologist, Kim worked for several world leading hearing aid manufacturing companies. She trained audiologists all over the United States as well as provided fitting assistance to their most challenging hearing aid cases. Kim realizes that each person she sees is unique and deserves individual attention to understand their needs. She strives to provide the best hearing care possible to everyone she meets.
Kim is married and she and her husband have one child. In her spare time she enjoys college football and traveling the USA.
Dr. Frederick Rahe is a licensed, certified clinical audiologist who has been practicing audiology in South Florida since 1977. He received his Doctorate Degree in Audiology from Nova Southeastern University, where he received the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2006. He obtained his Master’s degree in Audiology and his Bachelor’s degree in Audiology and Speech Pathology from the University of Florida. His areas of clinical interest include the evaluation and treatment of hearing and balance disorders, and dispensing digital hearing aids. Dr. Rahe has been involved with the establishment of infant hearing programs at five Broward County hospitals, serves on the State of Florida Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Advisory Council, and has served as Chair of the Broward County Infant Hearing Advisory Board. He is Past-President of the Florida Academy of Audiology, and a Past-President and recipient of Honors of the Florida Language, Speech and Hearing Association. He currently serves on the Florida State Advisory Board for Speech Language Pathology and Audiology. He is also on the faculty of three Doctor of Audiology programs. Dr. Rahe has been involved in a number of humanitarian hearing missions in Appalachia, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Trinidad and Tobago.
A native of Florida, Dr. Van Dorn began her undergraduate education at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, receiving her bachelors degree with honors in Health Sciences and a minor in biology. She went on to pursue her doctorate degree from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale. Dr. Van Dorn has interned at various settings including Miami Children’s Hospital and the University of Miami. She completed her fourth year residency at The Hearing Center of Broward and enjoyed the practice so much she decided to stay as a full-time audiologist.
Jon Dirks is a 4th year doctoral student, completing his residency with the Hearing Center of Broward. He is pursuing his doctorate through Kent State University, and has received a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology through Brock University in Ontario, Canada. He has served on committees for both the Student Academy of Audiology and the Student Academy of Doctors of Audiology, and his clinical and professional interests include advocacy and practice management. In his spare time Jon enjoys golfing and going to the beach.
Joan has been a member of The Hearing Center of Broward staff for over 35 years. She has worked as a patient care coordinator, office manager, and hearing aid specialist. Joan looks forward to working with new and familiar patients every day. Joan has been a resident of Lighthouse Point, Florida for her entire life (if you need any restaurant recommendations, ask her!). Joan and her husband have two daughters and enjoy the Florida weather.
Deborah, a licensed hearing instrument specialist, has been with The Hearing Center of Broward for over 9 years. Deborah speaks fluent Spanish, and will test your hearing and fit your hearing aids in both English and Español. In her free time Deborah enjoys exercising, and spending time with her 3 daughters.
Milly is the friendly voice you hear when you call The Hearing Center. She is happy to assist callers with the information needed to help schedule your appointment. She is also ready to provide any batteries and supplies that are needed for your hearing aids. Additionally, Milly is fluent in Spanish. In her free time, Milly enjoys spending time with her husband and her two pets.
Susan has worked with The Hearing Center of Broward for over 13 years. She is available to assist you with scheduling an appointment and answering your questions. Susan will make sure you are greeted with a smile and one of her freshly baked cookies each time you come into our office. Susan comes to us from New York. She and her husband have three children and three grandchildren. Susan brings a special empathy to our patients as both her mother, and husband have hearing loss and wear hearing aids.
